Our mission is simple: to make wines that best represent South Australia. We do this by selecting outstanding grapes from the best regions across the state to bottle what we love most about this magical place.

The Best
of South Australia

From where vines meet the sea in McLaren Vale, to the fertile red soils of Clare Valley and beyond, we work directly with family-owned vineyards and growers to produce our award-winning wines. Many have been part of the RockBare journey since we took our first steps 20 years ago. Our first wine – a Shiraz from a vineyard near Port Willunga where rugged rocks flank the shore – was the inspiration behind our name.
We live in the birthplace of Australian wine. The first plantings in South Australia were more than 150 years ago and the region remains one of the most diverse in the world. The best viticultural areas of the state have built their reputations around specific varietals, each best suited to the unique soils & climate of their respective sites.

Keeda Zilm

“We focus on making wines that are a unique expression of landscape, soil and climate from where our RockBare grapes are sourced. These are wines displaying brightness of fruit that capture depth of flavour with fine tannins.”
Keeda Zilm grew up in Kingston, 250km South East of Adelaide. A passion for agriculture led her to a career in the wine industry, first with O’Leary Walker in Clare before taking the reigns for Vickery Wines alongside renowned “old master of Australian Riesling” John Vickery.
Leading the team for RockBare, Keeda has found the perfect canvas on which to express her passion for South Australia’s broad landscape and treasured varieties. We focus on making wines that are a unique expression of landscape, soil and climate from where our RockBare grapes are sourced.

Riesling  2023

  • Description

  • Reviews
Hailing from the Clare Valley, this attractive riesling is bright and fragrant with classic fresh cut lime & lemongrass notes, alongside a subtle hint of wet slate, pair this with a couple of dozen natural oysters.
Floral and refreshing, blossom and lime zest dominate the palate. The wine is crisp and dry with a beautiful zing of grapefruit like acidity.

The Clare draws its inspiration from the earliest days of winemaking in Australia. The label pays homage to the German Jesuit priests who fled persecution and settled in the Clare Valley. They were the first winemakers and brought with them Riesling’s 15th century origin story from the Rhine, Germany. Older still are the ancient soils where we now source our fruit. Soils that were once roamed by a giant wombat, the diprotodon, over 1.6 million years ago.
The Clare Valley

The Clare Valley

Hidden away in Mount Lofty Ranges in South Australia is the breathtaking Clare Valley. Riesling reigns supreme here and the region's classic, dry style is widely recognised as world-class. Clare Rieslings retain acidity due to cool evening temperatures, while still exhibiting aromas of lime and citrus marmalade with age.

Grenache  2022

Grown from bush vines and made in the spirit of the news wave of Grenache. Picked early and handled delicately, bright and crunchy, this baby pushes the lovely wild wild cherry nature of the grape. Light walnut tanks give it an appetising, savoury finish.
Hand harvested from bush vines the palate on this Grenache is bright and crunchy, delicate and pretty. It is red fruit driven with textural complexity and a savoury finish.

Offering lovely varietal purity, the wine shows sweetly perfumed aromas of raspberry and dark plum on the nose with nuances of toasted nut, thyme and floral. The palate is equally charming and delectable with juicy fruit intensity and rounded mouthfeel, backed by silky texture and polished tannins. At its best: now to 2023.

The McLaren Vale labels pay homage to the land from where our vineyards stand today. The eclectic illustrations by Craig McGill and Susan Elliott tell a story of local regional landmarks, the history of winemaking in South Australia, and local fauna. They are playfully curious, extravagant, and thoughtful.

Located where the vines stretch to the shore, McLaren Vale is one of the most geologically diverse terrains in the world. The origin of South Australia’s wine industry, it boasts a pristine natural environment and is best known for Shiraz, and more recently, Grenache. Summers here are hot and dry, but the ocean has an air conditioning-like effect on both the maritime, cool-climate wines and the visitors that drink them.

If you’re after a light Shiraz, this is not the red for you. It’s inky black and dripping with ripe blackberries, dark chocolate and liquorice underpinned by mocha and spice. The voluptuous, fleshy mouth-feel is laden with velvet smooth tannins and a long, dark chocolate, spicy mocha and vanillin oak aftertaste. If you’re keen to cellar, 4-5 years would do it justice. Perfect for your next barbecue or steak night.
A lush medium bodied wine with dark berries and juicy plum on the palate brightened by a solid backbone of supporting acidity and ripe, spicy characters.

A quintessential example of McLaren Vale Shiraz at a great price; the nose is brimming with blackberry and plum alongside milk chocolate, spice and some saline notes. Medium to full bodied with a moreish baseline of tannin and oak richness with the saline note that is constant and an impressive addition to the concentrated dark berry fruits. There is a plushness of milk chocolate to finish with some earthen savoury nuance and excellent length.

Shiraz  2021

Sourced from two small blocks across the central and western ridge of Barossa Valley. Shiraz from the Barossa Valley has long been held in high regards as one of Australia’s premier producing regions. Its 19th Century origins and early European settlers, particularly of German and Silesian descent have created a rich history in Australian wine.
Blackberries and plum skin aromas, fragrantly supported by baking spices, star anise, black olive, and dark chocolate. A medium bodied plush wine, but still fresh and distinctive with the power and concentration of refined primary fruits. A core of blackberry and plum, with fantastic lively & textural tannins, supporting the fruit, right through to the finish. Well suited to a rare roasted saddle of venison, or try with a premium cut of rare dry aged beef. Also compliments a good vintage cheddar.

The 2021 Shiraz is from a number of small blocks in central and western ridge of Barossa Valley.

Shiraz is the Barossa’s star performer and has been pivotal in bringing fine Australian wine to an appreciative global audience.
